چکیده

Introduction Changes in muscle geometry such as muscle thickness, pennation angle and fascicle length occur with muscle contraction (Herbert and Gandevia, 1995; Fukunaga et al., 1997; Ito et al., 1998; Kawakami et al., 1998; Maganaris and Baltzopoulos, 1999). These changes can be measured using computerised sonography and could potentially provide a measure of muscle 'activity'. This study investigated the relationship between the sonographic measurement of these parameters and contraction level (force and electromyography (EMG)) over the full range of isometric contraction intensities from 0-100% in a range of muscles. Additional aims were to determine which parameters were most sensitive to detect change in contraction level and to investigate whether this relationship varied between muscles of different shape and architecture.

Relationship of moderate and low isometric lumbar extension through architectural and muscular activity variables: a cross sectional study

BACKGROUND No study relating the changes obtained in the architecture of erector spinae (ES) muscle were registered with ultrasound and different intensities of muscle contraction recorded by surface EMG (electromyography) on the ES muscle was found. The aim of this study was analyse the relationship in the response of the ES muscle during isometric moderate and light lumbar isometric extension...

The effect of isometric contractions of upper and lower limb muscles on the ultrasonic thickness of the transversus abdominis muscle

Background: The transverse abdominis (TrA) muscle is one of the most important muscles that contribute to the stability of the lumbar spine. Strengthening of trunk muscles that have a significant role in trunk stability is very important in the field of professional sport, sport medicine and rehabilitation of patient with low back pain (LBP). Identifying the exercises that can improve the stren...

VASTUS MEDIALIS OBLIQUE AND VASTUS LATERALISACTIVITIES RATIO ON SELECTED DEGREES OF RANGE OF MOTION IN OPEN AND CLOSED KINETIC CHAIN DURING ISOMETRIC CONTRACTION

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the ratio of Electromyography (EM G) activities of the vastus medialis obliqus (VMO) and vastus lateralis (VL) within seven angles of knee joint range of motion using isometric contraction in open kinetic chain (OK C) and closed kinetic chain (CKC). Methods: The dominant knees of 44 healthy female subjects (mean age: 24.84 with range...

تاثیر دما بر کاهش قدرت عضلانی ایزومتریک متعاقب تمرینات اکسنتریک در عضله گاستروکنمیوس داخلی ایزوله پرفیوز شده موش صحرائی

Background: The typical features of eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage are delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and prolonged loss of muscle strength. It has been shown that passive warmth is effective in reducing muscle injury. Due to the interaction of different systems in vivo, we used isolated perfused medial gastrocnemius skeletal muscle to study the direct effect of temperature on t...

Prediction of muscular architecture of the rectus femoris and vastus lateralis from EMG during isometric contractions in soccer players

OBJECTIVES The purpose of the study was to establish regression equations that could be used to predict muscle thickness and pennation angle at different intensities from electromyography (EMG) based measures of muscle activation during isometric contractions. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. METHODS Simultaneous ultrasonography and EMG were used to measure pennation angle, muscle thickness an...
